WhatsApp notifications in Saksi

What Saksi saves from WhatsApp notifications, how edits and deletion notices are labelled, and the limits to expect.

Last reviewed October 21, 2026

Saksi saves WhatsApp message notifications. In one to one chats it can show when a message was edited, and it marks a message Deleted only when WhatsApp itself shows that the message was deleted. If a message just disappears from the notification, Saksi marks it as a possible deletion.

Works with the notifications WhatsApp shows on your phone. Saksi is not affiliated with WhatsApp. WhatsApp Business is handled the same way.

What Saksi saves

  • The full text the notification provides, including longer messages with several lines.
  • The sender and conversation name shown in the notification.
  • Captions, and a reference to photos or files. The file itself is saved only when Android allows it. See Photos and files.

Labels you will see

LabelWhen
NewThe first time Saksi saw the message
Message editedWhatsApp's notification showed clear proof of an edit
Caption editedWhatsApp's notification showed clear proof that the caption of a photo or video was edited
UpdatedThe notification changed, but Saksi cannot prove an edit
DeletedWhatsApp's notification itself showed a deletion notice
Possible deletion (unconfirmed)The message is no longer in the notification. Deletion is not confirmed

Saksi recognizes WhatsApp's deletion notice in English and Indonesian today. If WhatsApp runs in another language on your phone, a deleted message appears as a possible deletion at most.

Tips for reliable capture

  • Keep WhatsApp notifications on for the chats you care about. Muted chats usually show no notification.
  • If the chat is open on screen, WhatsApp often shows no notification, so Saksi has nothing to save.
  • Do not swipe the notification away if you want Saksi to notice later changes. A dismissal is not a deletion, and Saksi pauses its deletion check for that chat for a short time.
  • Keep WhatsApp's notifications on, and do not hide notification content in your phone's settings. If Android or WhatsApp hides the text, Saksi shows Content unavailable.

Not specifically tested yet

WhatsApp groups, WhatsApp Business, and WhatsApp in languages other than English and Indonesian have not had their own test run on a real phone. They use the same handling, but results may differ.
