Getting started with Saksi

What Saksi does, what it needs from your phone, and the three steps that make it work well on Android.

Last reviewed October 21, 2026

Saksi keeps a private history of the notifications your phone shows you. It stays on your phone.

After you allow Notification Access, Saksi saves what Android shows in notifications from the apps you choose. You can then scroll back through your Timeline, search it, see when a WhatsApp or Telegram message was edited, and share a receipt of a message if you want to.

What you need

  • An Android phone with Android 8.0 or later.
  • Saksi installed on that phone. See Installing Saksi.
  • No account. Saksi has no sign up, and your notification history is not uploaded to Saksi servers.

Set up in three steps

  1. Turn on Notification Access. Open Saksi and tap Open Notification Access on the Finish Setup screen. Turn Saksi on in the Android list. This is the only step Saksi needs to start saving. See Turn on Notification Access.
  2. Allow alerts (optional). If you want Saksi to tell you about edits and possible deletions, open Settings > Message alerts in Saksi and tap Send test notification. If Android asks, allow notifications. If it says Android is blocking app notifications, allow them in your phone's Settings > Apps > Saksi > Notifications. See Allow Saksi alerts.
  3. Check battery settings. In your phone's Settings, set Saksi's battery use to Unrestricted (some phones say Always allow). See Battery restrictions.

Setup closes after step 1

The setup screen closes as soon as Notification Access is on. Steps 2 and 3 are done afterwards, from Saksi's Settings and from your phone's Settings.

Find your way around

The bottom bar has three tabs:

  • Timeline: every saved notification, newest first, with labels such as New, Message edited and Possible deletion (unconfirmed).
  • Media: photos and files Saksi could save, plus references to files it could not.
  • Settings: Capture & Apps, Message alerts, Archive & Storage, Privacy & Permissions, Language & Appearance, Receipts & Sharing, Help & Support and About Saksi.

What Saksi cannot do

Saksi is not a recovery tool. It cannot read messages that never showed as a notification, open other apps' storage, or confirm what the sender did. If a chat is open on screen or muted, the app often shows no notification, so there is nothing for Saksi to save.
