Social media and email notifications

What Saksi saves from Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, X, TikTok, Discord, Gmail and other email apps, and which labels to expect.

Last reviewed October 21, 2026

Saksi saves notifications from social media and email apps the same way it saves any other app: it keeps the text the notification shows. Edit and deletion labels are designed for WhatsApp and Telegram, so for these apps think of Saksi as a history of what your notifications said.

Saksi is not affiliated with any of the apps named here. App names are used only to describe which notifications Saksi can save.

Which apps this covers

Kind of appExamplesHow Saksi handles them
Social mediaInstagram, Facebook, X, TikTokSaves the notification text. Changes are shown as Updated
Chat apps without dedicated supportMessenger, Discord, Google MessagesSaves the notification text. A Message edited badge can appear, but it is not confirmed
EmailGmail and other email appsSaves what the notification shows, usually the sender and the subject

Any app you leave on in App Filter is saved. These apps have not had their own test run on a real phone, so what you see can differ by app, app version and phone.

What Saksi saves from these apps

For every notification Saksi keeps:

  • the app name and the time,
  • the title, usually a person, a page or a sender,
  • the text, including the longer text shown when you expand the notification,
  • the separate lines of a notification that lists several items, such as a few new emails.

Saksi links records by app and notification title, so the conversation view can show notifications from the same person or chat together.

What typically appears

Every app decides what to put in its notifications. Saksi can only save that.

  • Social media: short activity lines, such as a like, a comment, a mention, a new follower or a message request. Many apps write the action ("liked your photo") and not the content behind it.
  • Direct messages: often the sender and the message text, if the app shows previews.
  • Email: usually the sender as the title and the subject, sometimes the first line of the email. When several emails arrive, the app may show one notification that lists them.

What appears also depends on the app's own notification settings. Most social and email apps let you choose which activity, accounts or folders send a notification. If something never sends a notification, Saksi has nothing to save. Settings and their names vary by app and version.

Grouped notifications and summaries

When several notifications arrive from one app, Android often bundles them under a summary such as "3 new messages".

  • Saksi saves the individual notifications in the bundle, not the summary notification on top.
  • A notification that only says something like "New messages" or "Checking for new messages", with no message text, is saved as a Thread record at most.
  • A summary that changes without new readable content is shown as Updated.

Use the Thread chip on the Timeline to see or ignore these records. See Search and filters.

Labels you will see

LabelWhat it means for these apps
NewThe first time Saksi saw this notification or message
UpdatedThe notification changed. Saksi does not know why
ThreadA summary with no message text
Message editedMessenger, Discord, Gmail and some SMS apps only: the text changed while the number of messages stayed the same. Not confirmed, and no alert
DismissedYou swiped the notification away. This is not a deletion
ClearedThe app or Android removed the notification. This is not a deletion

Instagram, Facebook, X and TikTok never get a Message edited badge. A change is shown as Updated.

Deleted relies on WhatsApp's own deletion notice, so do not expect it for these apps.

If an app shows chats in Android's conversation style, a message that drops out of its notification can be marked Possible deletion (unconfirmed). This is designed and tested for WhatsApp and Telegram only. For other apps treat it as a hint that the notification changed, never as proof. See Deleted and disappeared notifications.

Missing previews and placeholders

Some notifications arrive without their content. Common reasons:

  • The app's own privacy setting hides message previews, so the notification only says "New message" or similar.
  • Android hides sensitive notification content, for example some verification codes or content on the lock screen. This varies by phone and Android version.
  • The app shows only a count, such as "2 new emails", instead of each item.

When Android or the app hides the text, the record shows Content unavailable or just the placeholder the app sent. Saksi cannot recover hidden text. See Supported apps.

Photos in these notifications

Some social and email notifications show a picture, such as a photo in a post. Saksi can save that picture only when the notification includes it as a readable image. App icons and profile pictures are never saved. Email attachments are usually not part of the notification, so they are not saved. See Photos and files.

When notifications arrive late or not at all

Saksi can only save a notification after the other app posts it. Social and email apps need to receive updates in the background to do that, and battery savers can delay or stop them.

  • Keep notifications on for the app in your phone's settings and in the app itself.
  • If the app's notifications arrive late on your phone, check that app's battery setting too, not only Saksi's.
  • If Saksi itself stops saving, see Battery restrictions and Saksi stopped saving.

Find notifications from one app

Tap All apps at the top of the Timeline and select only the apps you want, for example Gmail. You can also type an app name in search. See Search and filters.
