Turn on Notification Access
Saksi saves notifications only after you allow Notification Access. How to turn it on, what it allows, and how to check it is working.

Notification Access is an Android permission that lets an app read the notifications your phone shows. Saksi uses it to build your local history. Without it, Saksi saves nothing.
Turn it on
- Open Saksi. The Finish Setup screen shows Step 1: Notification Access.
- Tap Open Notification Access. Android opens its Notification Access list.
- Find Saksi and turn it on. Android shows a warning about what the app can read. Confirm it.
- Go back to Saksi. Setup closes and your Timeline opens.
If you come back without turning it on, Saksi shows Still not enabled. Tap Tap to open settings again and try once more.
Restricted setting on newer Android
Some phones block Notification Access for apps installed outside an app store and show a "Restricted setting" message. Saksi will be installed from Google Play, where this does not apply.
What it allows
- Saksi reads the notifications Android delivers to it, from the apps you leave on in App Filter.
- It cannot read messages inside other apps, open their storage, or see notifications that were never shown.
- Everything it saves stays on your phone. See Privacy and permissions.
How it works
- An app, such as WhatsApp, Instagram or Gmail, posts a notification on your phone.
- Android shows it to you and also passes it to the apps you allowed Notification Access, including Saksi.
- Saksi saves what the notification contains: the app, the time, the title and the text. It saves a photo or file only when the notification includes a readable copy.
- When the notification changes or goes away, Android tells Saksi again, so Saksi can label what happened.
Saksi starts with the notifications still in your notification shade when Notification Access is turned on. Notifications you dismissed before that are not in your history.
Each app decides what it puts in its notifications, so some apps give Saksi much more to save than others. See Why apps show different amounts of information.
Check that it works
- Open Settings > Capture & Apps in Saksi.
- Look at Source notifications. Listener connected means Saksi is receiving notifications.
- For WhatsApp and Telegram you also see when Saksi last saw a notification from that app. Tap Refresh status to update it.
If it says Listener disconnected or Listener connection not established, see Saksi stopped saving.
Choose which apps are saved
Every app is included by default. To exclude an app, open Settings > Capture & Apps > App Filter and switch it off. Saksi stops saving its new notifications; notifications already saved stay until the 7-day cleanup removes them. Saksi never saves its own notifications.
